Measure for Horizontal Blinds

Measuring does not have to be done by a professional installer. The technique shown here is the same one that our installers use for our local customers.

Important: Only use a metal tape measure! Don't use a cloth measuring tape

1. Measure across the window opening from edge to edge at the top, the middle, then the bottom
   
   
2. Take the smallest measurement and record that as your "width"
   
   
3. Measure from top to bottom on the left side and the right side
   
   
4. Take the biggest measurement and record that as "Height"

IMPORTANT NOTE:The factory will automatically deduct approximately 1/4" from either side of inside mount blinds to keep the blind from rubbing the sides of the window opening.

Measuring for doors is a little different. Since the blind will not fit inside the window frame you have the freedom of deciding how wide and how long you want it. Typically, a few inches wider than the window is fine for the width. The headrail occupies about 2-1/4" of space and the bottom rail with hold-downs occupies about 1" so add 2-1/4" to the length for an exact fit. Also, make sure that the blind will not interfere with the door handle. All of our blinds come with a wood valance and hold down brackets so the blind will not bounce off the door when you open and close it.

Important tip for outside, door-mounted blinds: If the blind you order for your door is wide enough to allow for same-side controls put the controls on the side of the door where the hinges are. This will keep the controls from swinging around as the door is opened and closed. If the blind is too narrow and our system will not allow you to place the controls on the same side put the tilt on the same side as the door hinges. Since the lift will not be used on a door-mounted blind with hold down brackets you can tie it up at the top.
